Time Machine
Once in high school, (would have been about 1996 or 97) my friend actually wore a pair of her mom’s jeans from the 70s. Flare jeans had come back in style, and I remember her mom saying that everything always comes back around in fashion. What I did not realize is how very strange it feels when it happens to you.
I walked into American Eagle and felt like I had literally walked back in time. It was visceral. It felt so weird I wanted to keep blinking or shaking my head. Everywhere I looked were clothes that were in my closet twenty-five years ago. They had the same patterns, same ties, same shapes. Piece after piece brought back visions of friends, tv shows and well, high school in general. I just couldn’t get over it. Not only was it one of the strangest feelings, but it also confirmed what I had already been thinking-I could no longer where clothes from this store. It was officially out of my age range.
This has happened in a couple of stores as well as when I’ve seen current high schoolers wearing clothes I wore way back when. I still don’t like it. It is just plain crazy.
